US Air Force’s Experimental ‘Flying Saucer’ Aircraft pictured above is one of the many experimental aircraft considered by the U.S. Air Force as a Lenticular Reentry Vehicle. This saucer shaped vessel was under development as a method of nuclear warhead delivery during the Cold War.

Fact: Its fastest speed and altitude ever recorded was 2,020 mph and 74,000 ft.The planned B-70 nuclear-armed strategic bomber was developed in the late 1950’s by North American Aviation. This 6-engine vessel was the prototype version of the planned B-70 nuclear-armed, deep-penetration strategic bomber for the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command. The USAF eventually gave up fighting for its production and the B-70 program was retired in 1969.
