The most anticipated moment of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony came when former Journey vocalist Steve Perry appeared alongside his ex-bandmates for the first time since a 2005 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

Although he didn’t sing with them (and hasn’t since a one-off event in 1991), Perry did stand with them at the podium to deliver an induction speech. If this moment didn’t lead to an actual reunion performance, it’s hard to imagine that anything will. But even without Perry, Journey is still able to pack arenas all over the world, largely due to their current singer, Arnel Pineda. Steve Perry Reunites with Journey at Rock Hall Induction Journey fans have stopped believing in a reunion performance. The American rock band was joined by former lead singer Steve Perry at Friday evening’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Perry, 68, was there with former bandmates Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Steve Smith and Ross Valory, along with current lead singer Arnel Pineda, who was not included in the band’s honor.

LOOK: Arnel Pineda meets Journey’s Steve Perry for first time

For nearly four decades, Arnel Pineda has always wanted to meet Journey’s original frontman Steve Perry. On Friday, the Filipino singer finally got his wish — and then some.

The touching moment happened after Journey was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in a ceremony held in Brooklyn, New York.

“One of the sweetest hug you can ever get from one of my heroes and silent mentors,” said Pineda as he shared on Instagram a photo of him embracing the music legend. “It means the world to me. Waited 35 years for this moment. Thank you Almighty God!”

Pineda also expressed his gratitude to Perry, who had nothing but warm words for him for keeping Journey’s music alive.
