EACH year, Muslims spend the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observing a community wide fast.
Tasmia Ismail, General Manager of Die Burger Oos-Kaap and EP Media, explained that the annual fast of Ramadan is considered one of the five “pillars” of Islam.
“Muslims who are physically able are required to fast each day of the entire month, from sunrise to sunset. The evenings are spent enjoying family and community meals and engaging in prayer and spiritual reflection,” said Ismail.
As the month of Ramadan comes to an end and Eid approaches, it is a time to give in charity to those in need. A time to celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy.
“We would like to wish all our Muslim readers and clients a blessed and peaceful Eid,” said Ismail.
